Module 12 Supporting Materials
Lesson 12.1 Β· Pre-Work
Mock Interview One β Pre-Work Checklist
Complete before booking Mock Interview One. If you cannot tick all items, identify what is outstanding and complete it first. Do not book the mock until this checklist is done β a premature mock is less valuable than a well-prepared one.
Case Study
Two-minute introduction drafted and practised aloud
Project β role β challenge β contribution. Not memorised word for word β known well enough to deliver naturally under pressure.
Section 3 (options and evaluation) reviewed β Level 3 check
Confirm that at least two options are named and the professional basis for your recommendation is explicit. If it reads as description rather than evaluation, rewrite before the mock.
Prepared for at least three case study follow-up questions
Use the three-layer questioning structure from Module 9: document interrogation, depth testing, breadth testing.
Technical Competencies
READY-structured answer prepared for Contract Practice (NEC)
AMEY NEC project β compensation event or CE assessment. Includes Evaluate step β options you considered and why you chose the approach you recommended.
READY-structured answer prepared for Contract Practice (JCT)
Manchester City Council ICD project β include BSR regulatory delay, Pay-Less Notice, or EoT scenario depending on where your strongest Level 3 evidence sits.
READY-structured answer prepared for Procurement
Two-stage ICD procurement for MCC or route selection on another project. Professional reasoning for the route, not description of the process.
READY-structured answer prepared for Commercial Management
Risk identification and advice, or final account strategy. Includes the dual contractor/consultant perspective that differentiates this candidate.
READY-structured answer prepared for Cost Planning / Financial Control
Design-cost gap identification at an early RIBA stage, or difficult financial news delivered to a client. Professional judgement explicit.
Ethics and Mandatory Competencies
Specific Health and Safety example prepared
An issue you identified, advice you gave, outcome. Not generic β a specific situation from your experience.
Ethics question prepared β professional integrity example
A situation where your professional duty was in tension with another interest. What you did. Why.
RICS Rules of Conduct β can you name the five and apply them?
Not a recitation exercise. Know the principles well enough to apply them to a scenario.
Difficult Questions
Difficult Question Preparation Worksheet completed (Module 11)
All four situations worked through. Draft responses written and practised out loud.
Physical cue identified for silence management
The specific habit you will use to hold silence rather than fill it with unnecessary words.
Post Mock Interview One Β· Reflection
Mock Interview One β Debrief Reflection Form
Complete within 24 hours of Mock Interview One. Use this alongside Knight's debrief notes. Your own honest reflection on the session is as important as the formal feedback β you noticed things in the room that the debrief may not have captured.
Case Study Performance
How did your two-minute introduction land? What did you notice?
Which case study question was hardest? Why?
Where did you feel the answer was at Level 3? Where did it stay at Level 2?
Knight's formal feedback rating on case study
Needs significant work
Good β one area to develop
Strong
Technical Competency Performance
Which competency area felt strongest? What made it work?
Which competency area was weakest? What happened?
Where did your voice stay in third person when it should have been first person? Which specific answers?
Knight's formal feedback on technical depth overall
Needs significant work
Good β targeted development needed
Consistently strong
Handling Pressure
Which question destabilised you most? Write it exactly as you remember it.
What happened in your answer β where specifically did it break down?
How did you manage silence? Was it a strength or a weakness in this session?
Knight's formal feedback on pressure management
Visible impact on performance
One or two moments to work on
Composed throughout
Development Plan for Mock Interview Two
The single most important thing to improve before Mock Interview Two
The specific work you will do this week to address it β include what you will practise, how, and how often
Any secondary development areas β and the specific work planned
What you will deliberately not change β the areas that were strong and should be maintained, not over-rehearsed
Pre Mock Interview Two Β· Confirmation
Mock Interview Two β Preparation Confirmation
Upload this completed form with your Mock Interview Two booking. If you cannot complete all sections, do the development work first. Submitting an incomplete form signals that Mock Interview Two is premature β it is better to delay the session by a few days than to use it before your preparation is ready.
Section A β Development Work Completed
Primary development area from Mock Interview One (copy from Debrief Reflection)
Specific work you completed this week to address it
How you know the development work is done β what changed in your answer when you practised it?
Secondary development area (if applicable) and work completed
Section B β Focus Areas for Mock Interview Two
The question from Mock Interview One that you most want to be asked again β and why you are now ready for it
The area you are most nervous about in Mock Interview Two β and what you have done to prepare for it
Anything you would like Knight to focus on specifically in Mock Interview Two
Post Mock Interview Two Β· Final Assessment
Final Readiness Assessment
Complete after Mock Interview Two. This is your honest self-assessment going into the real thing β not a confidence exercise, a professional one. The assessment date is coming. This form helps you use the time between now and then wisely.
What it means to be ready
Consistent Level 3 depth on the core competencies. First-person professional voice. Composure on difficult questions β not absence of pressure, but performance despite it. Honest acknowledgement of the edges of your knowledge without losing professional authority.
What ready does not mean
A perfect answer to every possible question. Complete certainty. No nerves. Knowing everything. No candidate at any level is ever perfectly prepared β the panel knows this. Professional competence under realistic conditions is the standard, not perfection under ideal ones.
Self-Assessment Across Core Areas
Rate each area honestly β not aspirationally. The goal is to identify where any final days of preparation should go.
Case Study
Your honest assessment of your two-minute introduction
Your confidence in Section 3 (options and evaluation) β the Level 3 heart of the document
Still needs work
Solid β minor concerns
Confident
One thing you would say if asked "what would you do differently?"
